Starting a 240 Massey Ferguson tractor requires the following steps:
1. Sit in the seat and open the fuel shut-off valve, located next to the fuel tank, by rotating it clockwise.
2. Push in the clutch pedal and turn the ignition key to the “ON” position.
3. Pull out the choke knob if the engine has been unused for more than four hours.
4. Put your foot on the brake, engage the PTO lever, and move the gearshift lever to neutral.
5. Push the starter button and hold it in until the engine starts.
6. If the engine doesn’t start up, push the starter button three or four more times.
7. When the engine starts, release the starter button and, if the engine was previously at rest, stretch the choke knob out.
8. Move the gearshift lever to the desired gear.
9. You can now begin operating the Massey Ferguson.
