Timing a Massey Ferguson baler is a relatively simple process. Here are the steps to follow:
1. Loosen and remove the drive belt from the drive wheel on the left side of the baler.
2. Set the baler’s hand crank in the 2 o’clock position and tighten the crank bolt. This is the starting position for the baler.
3. Install the drive belt into the drive wheel and begin cranking the hand crank.
4. Measure the distance between the tip of the bull wheel and the bottom of the clutch dogs. This distance should be between 6-7/16 and 6-7/8 of an inch. Adjust the distance of the adjustable rod on the left side of the baler to reach the correct specs.
6. Assemble the bale chamber on the top of the baler and reinstall any previously removed covers.
7. Reconnect the drive belt and crank the hand crank to ensure that the timer is correctly set.
8. Make a final check of the travel adjustment for the left-side rods and adjust if necessary.
9. Start the engine and check for any friction or jerking – if either are observed, the drive belt may need to be adjusted or replaced.
Following these steps will ensure that the Massey Ferguson baler is correctly timed and ready to use.
