Massey Ferguson first began using Perkins diesel engines in the early 1950s. This was when they started producing tractors with diesel engines rather than gasoline engines. The first tractor with Perkins diesel was the Ferguson TE-20, which Massey Ferguson released in the mid-1950s. This engine was rated at 20 horsepower and was capable of pulling a plow and other implements. As Massey Ferguson expanded its tractor lineup, more and more models began to feature Perkins diesel engines. By the mid-1960s, most of their models had this type of engine and Massey Ferguson had become one of the largest suppliers of diesel engines in the world.
