Driving a tractor Massey Ferguson is similar to driving other types of tractors. Before getting behind the wheel, make sure you familiarize yourself with the controls, the transmission and the brakes. Below is a description of how to start and drive a tractor Massey Ferguson.
1. Understand the controls. All Massey Ferguson tractors have a single control wheel and brake lever. The forward/reverse lever allows you to shift between either forward or reverse. The PTO lever starts the power take-off system when engaged.
2. Start the tractor. Step one is to depress the clutch pedal with your left foot and position the fuel lever to the “On” position, located to the right of the seat. Then turn the ignition to the “On” position and press down on the accelerator. Start by turning the starter key, located in the center of the control wheel, and immediately take your foot off the accelerator as soon as the engine starts.
3. Put the tractor in gear. Make sure the PTO lever is in the “Off” position and the clutch is depressed. Shift the gear lever next to the seat into the desired direction: forward or reverse. Pull back on the handle and slide the forward/reverse lever into the appropriate position. Push the clutch forward until you hear it click. Then release the shift handle.
4. Adjust the brakes. Push the brake lever with your left hand to position the brakes. After you release the pressure, the brakes should hold. If they don’t, press the clutch pedal with your left foot and adjust the brakes until they take hold.
5. Start driving. With the controls in the correct position, press down on the accelerator and slowly release the clutch. The tractor should begin to move and you will be on the way. To stop, press the clutch pedal with your left foot and pull the brake lever toward you with your left hand.
Properly driving a tractor Massey Ferguson requires practice and familiarity with the specific controls of the model. Make sure you read the operator’s manual for your particular model to ensure you can drive it safely and efficiently.
