To operate a Massey Ferguson 240, begin by familiarizing yourself with the location of all the controls, such as fuel, throttle, reverse pedals, and gear levers. Make sure the tractor has enough fuel and oil before operating. Ensure the parking brake is engaged and all safety features, such as roll over protection structures (ROPS), are secured. If the tractor is equipped with a clutch, press it in and move the gear lever to the neutral position. Then turn the key to the “on” position and press the primer to prime the fuel lines. Push the throttle lever slightly to start the tractor. After the engine is running, press the clutch and move the gear lever to the desired forward or reverse speeds. While moving, adjust the throttle accordingly for best performance. When coming to a stop, disengage the transmission before releasing the clutch. Pull the parking brake to engage the brakes before turning off the engine.
